American Swallow-tailed Kite - Elanoides forficatus
Status - Protected
Range - (US) While the highest concentration of these kites is in Florida, they can also be found in the sub-tropical areas of South Carolina, Georgia, Alabama, Louisiana, and Texas. This migrating bird is also found in Central and South America.
Habitat - Mature woodlands abutting grassy plains are the most common areas.
Notes - Considered by many as the America's most amazing soaring bird, sometimes taking lizards and insects off tree branches without a pause in its graceful flight.
